RSS Feeds
What is RSS?
RSS, short for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary, is an XML file format which allows users to read published content, such as news, updates and even multimedia files, such as MP3s. RSS allows the user to be notified of updates and new postings without having to first browse the site.
To use RSS, you must have a news reader (known as a news aggregator). Most newer web browsers, like Firefox or Safari, have this feature built in. You can download a client-side newsreader from download.com.
The news reader will examine the site for any new updates or content. If found, it will be published or downloaded to the reader. This could be a listing of article titles and their links, the full article, or even multimedia files, such as mp3s.
