Tests & Quizzes
Instructors use Assessments to test Student knowledge, measure Student progress and gather information from Students.
There are two types of Assessments:
- Tests – Tests are created to check the knowledge and skill level of users enrolled in the course. Tests permit the Instructor to assign point values to each question on exams or quizzes. When a Student completes a Test it is submitted for grading. The results are recorded in the Gradebook.
- Surveys – Surveys are useful for polling purposes, evaluations and random checks of knowledge. They function in the same way as Tests and offer most of the same options. Questions on Surveys are not assigned a point value. Surveys are not graded.
Blackboard does not differentiate between quizzes and tests. Blackboard calls both tests and quizzes assessments. Don't let that distract you. It won't affect your grade; it is a just a quirk in Blackboard.
Students enrolled in ELI courses will probably take their exams on a computer in a testing center. If you are scheduled to take an ELI test at a testing center, make sure that you call the testing center ahead of time to verify they will be open.
To Take a Test/Quiz:
Your instructor should tell you where the test has been stored in the course. In the example below, the test is stored in a folder called Week Three in the Assignments area.
1. Click Assignments.
2. Click Week Three.
3. Click the title of the test.

4. At this point, if you are taking the test at the ELI testing center, the testing center staff must enter the test password for you.
5. Click OK to indicate that you do want to take the test now.

6. Enter your answers in the Web form.

7. When you are done, click Submit.
8. Click OK.

9. Click OK to Confirm Assignment submission.

Professors can choose how a test is given in Blackboard. A test can appear on your screen one question at a time, or, your screen may show all of the questions in one page. You might be able to backtrack through the questions, or you might not. You may get feedback with your grade, or you might not. No matter what kind of test your professor gives, always remember to read the questions carefully and Click SUBMIT.
Surveys
Your instructor can administer tests, surveys and quizzes in Blackboard. Surveys can include Fill in the Blank, Matching, True/False, Multiple-Choice, Multiple Answer, or Essay Questions.
To Take a Survey:
Your instructor should tell you where the survey has been stored in the course. In the example below, the survey is stored in a folder called Week Three in the Assignments area.
When you complete a survey, a checkmark appears in the gradebook to indicate that you have completed it. Your answers will not be associated with your name.
1. Click Assignments.
2. Click Week Three.
3. Click the title of the survey.

4. Click OK to indicate that you do want to take the survey now.

5. Enter your answers in the Web form.

6. When you are done, click Submit.
7. Click OK.
