Surveys

Surveys can be useful tools for gathering feedback from your students or assessing their prior knowledge of a subject. Like Tests, Surveys are implemented in a two-step process. First, create your survey. Then, deploy the survey in a content area when you are ready for students to take it.

Create A New Survey:

From Control Panel

1. In the Assessment panel, click Survey Manager.

2. Click on Add Survey.

3. Enter a name, instructions and a description for the survey.

4. Click Submit to go back to the Survey Canvas.

5. To add questions, choose a question type from the Add drop-down menu and click Go.

Deploying A Survey

1. Go to the Control Panel

2. Click the Content Area in which you wish to deploy the survey.

3. From the Select drop-down menu on the toolbar, select Survey and click Go.

4. Click the name of the survey in the list of surveys to select it.

5. Click Submit.

6. Click OK.

7. Click Modify the Survey Options.

8. Under Survey Availability,  Make the Link Available, click Yes.

9. Select any other options desired under Survey Availability, Self Assessment Options, Survey Feedback, and Survey Presentation.

10. Click Submit.

11. Click OK to confirm and return to Modify Survey Menu.

View Survey Results

  1. Go to the Control Panel.

  2. Select Grade Center under the Assessment pane.

  3. Select the Down Arrows next to the name of the column item for your survey.

  4. Select Download Results.

  5. Select download options on the Download Results page:

  6. Make sure Tab for PCs and Comma for MAC is selected.

  7. Select one of the following options for Format of results:

    1. By User: will include all of the questions for a user in one row.

    2. By Question and User: will list each question for each user in a separate row. Choose this option for surveys longer than 40 questions.

  8. Select one of the following options for Attempts to download:

    1. Only valid attempts: Downloading only valid attempts will only use the attempt that is being graded. For example, if the grading option is Last attempt then only the last attempt will be provided.

    2. All attempts: for this item may be downloaded under All attempts.

  9. Select the Click to download results link, located in the lower left-hand corner.

  10. Select Save to save the file to your computer for review.

  11. Select OK to return to the Grade Center.

  12. Open the saved Survey Results Excel file using Microsoft Excel.
