When you register and pay for your courses at NVCC, the following four accounts are created for your use. (It may take up to a week for all three accounts to be created.)

• A VCCS email account, which you must use for all private communication with your instructor or other students.
• A VCCS Blackboard account, which you will use to view and complete most course activities.
• A VIVA account, which allows you to use the Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA).
• A NovaConnect account which you use to register & pay for your NVCC course online.

All four accounts use the same username and password. Your Blackboard username and password are the same as you NovaConnect username and password.

To log in to your Blackboard account, you will need to know your username. If you do not know your username and want to find out, do the following:

1. Go to: http://nvcc.my.vccs.edu.
2. Click either the Look up your username or Look up your username and set password links.
   
3. Type Your First Name, Last Name, Birthday and EMPL ID into the text boxes
   
4. Click Search.
5. Your Blackboard username and EMPL ID will be displayed on the next page.

1. Go to: http://nvcc.my.vccs.edu.
2. Click the Forgot your password? link.
   
3. Enter your First Name, Last Name, Birthday and Social Security Number.
4. Enter a new password. Your new password must have at least seven characters but not more than ten.Your password must contain a combination of:
   • At least one UPPERCASE letter
   • At least one lowercase letter
   • At least one number (0-9)
5. Enter or select a security question. You must provide a security question with an answer that only you will know. This question will be used if you need to reset your password in the future. You may either type your own security question into the box on the left, or, alternatively, click on one of the questions listed on the right. If you click on one of the questions provided in the list, the question will be entered into the security question box for you.
6. Enter the answer to the security question.
   * Pay attention to how you spell the answer, including capitalization, because if you ever have to use the security question to retrieve your password, you will have to type in the answer in exactly the same way that you enter it on this page.
   
7. Click Next.

1. Once you have your Blackboard account username and password, you are ready to log into Blackboard.
2. Open a web browser window. Blackboard is compatible with most browsers, including Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and Safari.
3. Go to: http://learn.vccs.edu. We recommend that you bookmark this site to make it easier to access throughout the semester.
4. Enter your username and password. Initially, your password will be your six-digit birthday: MMDDYY. However, if you have changed your password, enter the new password.
   
   Note: If you have used Blackboard at NVCC in the past and you had changed your password, your password may have reverted to the default six-digit birthday during the migration from Blackboard 5.5 to Blackboard 6.2.
5. Click Login.

   Change Your Password:

   If you want to change your password, you must go to a site maintained by the VCCS called My VCCS. To access this site:

   • Go to http://www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect
   • Click Find My ID. This will take you to central login page for NovaConnect, Blackboard and Student Email.
   • Enter your username and old password to login. You will see a Change My Password link once you have logged in.
   • Your new password must contain both letters and numbers and it must be between 6 and 10 characters long.
   • This is the password that you will use to login to Blackboard, NovaConnect and your Student Email. If you change your Blackboard password, you change all three passwords!
